SHOULD YOU MARRY FOR LOVE OR MONEY?
I’ve never told anyone this before so I might as well spill the beans to the entire internet right here right now on this famous blog - I’ve been married before. A few times. Yes I know I give off a “sacrificial virgin” appearance, but this innocent little youth minister’s blood couldn’t even purify a magic eraser. Know what I mean? Me neither. Because I’ve been through it all when it comes to marriage, I want to offer a little advice for those of you thinking about what some people call “holy matrimony” and what I call “a huge mistake.” The biggest question I get asked by many of my teen sunday schoolers thinking about marriage is “Kathy, should I marry for love or for money?” While I think the answer is obvious, let’s break down the pros and cons of each scenario and you can decide at the end for your$elf.
Marrying for love
Pros:
Marriage will be really fun for at least a few years before slipping into an inevitable pit of despair
Way less lying
You can get ugly without concern
Cons:
Cheating is harder on you emotionally
Weird Netflix rules and protocols
Nearly impossible to acquire wealth because money means less when you’re “rich in love” or whatever
Marrying for money
Pros:
You’re rich
You can live a life of luxury and travel the world to exotic places like Cancun (shout out to Senor Frogs!)
OK to cheat
Don’t have to consider your partner’s feelings
Good presents
Air conditioning
You get to do the “white glove” test after your maid leaves and if you find any dust, you get to throw a huge fit
Easier to get away with crimes
A vast network of other rich friends that will ensure your wealth stays with you and your family for generations
Cons:
Labor unions
No other cons
OK folks, that about sums up every single pro and con I can think of when it comes to marrying for love or for money. I hope it helps you in your decision! Please let me know in the comments which one you decided on! Right now I need to go see if my alimony check has come in the mail yet, so I hope to catch you next time when we will all surely learn a little bit more about how to stay devoted to faith.
Blessings and Light,
Kathy
